Practical Pantry Organization: Tidy Space, Tidy Mind

Many of us have scrolled through pages of Pinterest, dreamily sighing at the oh-so-perfectly organized closets, practical pantry organization systems, garden houses, etc. It has been a confirmed point of adulthood, to finally embrace the joy of organization. One source of inspiration for me, was the charming works of Marie Kondo and her Konmari method. Organization is gaining popularity and monetization by detail-oriented individuals who made organization their livelihood. It was only a matter of time before I jumped onto the bandwagon, too!

For the first time in a long time, I live in a house with a large pantry. This is not the case for everyone, and may not be the case for you, but I hope you can still find benefit from the following tips and recommendations!

Before we go any further, allow me to establish some credibility by sharing my personal pantry’s outcome.

Is it perfect? Not quite. Is the pantry lighting totally unattractive? In my opinion, yes.

It is practical pantry organization, and is peaceful to look at every time I open the door.

We should be intentional about our food, meals, and cooking. I figured I needed to share the same intention within the organization of the separate components and ingredients! Thus, my pantry re-organiztion was born.

First, make sure all of the food is fresh. Make sure there are no expired gnarly science experiments hiding in there. Also, make sure everything fits your current dietary needs. (Before we completed Whole30, I reorganized our pantry again, positioned compliant items together, and the non-compliant foods separately, making them less convenient to grab).

Make additional dietary considerations as needed for your household. For instance, we live in a totally gluten-free household, so after moving in, it was important to make sure we sorted through all of our foods accordingly.

Once you’ve established that you actually want everything in your pantry:

The next step is to buy the proper storage containers. The Chef’s Path Airtight containers are my favorite!

The Chef’s path products are BPA-free containers. They are perfectly airtight, and came with adorable sticker labels, a chalk marker (that works really well), and usually a free gift. We received some super cute measuring spoons and measuring cups with some of our orders! They actually sent us extra stickers, which were excellent for labeling some jars and such that we were already utilizing for storage.

The Chef’s Path company also has excellent customer service, should you need to contact them, and you can buy their products in different sizes and varieties on Amazon, by using any of the links below. (I am an affiliate with Amazon, so should you choose to purchase through these links, it adds no cost to you, but provides me with a helpful bit of commission!)

The fun part is once you have your containers: organizing the placement of the foods! (Gosh, I am such a nerd for getting so excited about this.)

As you may be able to see in my photo, I have clustered similar types of food together. I sorted breakfast items nearby one another (cereal, oatmeal, gluten free pancake mix, etc.) and grouped snacks together as well. I find that grouping your snackage together really helps provide a visual cue when the snack quantity gets to be overly dramatic. Snacks are alluring to buy, and when you’re a household full of grazers, things can get out of hand. Totally not speaking from personal experience or anything…ahem.

Finally, give that pantry floor a good vacuum! Now that you can hopefully see the floor now, this is a great way to finish up your polished, pantry touches.

And VOILA! Your pantry is now a place of peace and practicality. Such a simple change to further simplify and tidy our lives.

Be well, friends! Stay organized, stay peaceful, and remember to subscribe!
